Wire Expressions was started as a hobby in 2001. My first necklace was made out of galvanized steel, using pliers from my dad’s tool box. I eventually found easier wire to work with, and came up with a few designs. Some friends offered to ‘buy’ necklaces off me. One of these friends was sitting next to a stranger on a flight – this lady ended up buying several sets, and so it grew into a little business. More than a decade later, I have adapted and changed many of my designs, but I’m still bending wire!
The most common question I receive is ‘where did I learn to do this?’ I am completely self taught! It comes from a natural ability and desire to create. Unlike many people who do wire work, I do not use a jig, which I feel gives me more freedom to get things looking just right. Many admirers are surprised to learn the perfect symmetry between two earrings is done completely by sight and feel.
