My farm is open to the public from the first Saturday in May to October 31 and offers an ever changing smorgasbord of goodies. | Fruits vary from season to season as chokecherries and wild plums are picked in our bush and birds can get there first! Usually we have a fair bit of them though. Strawberries are available most of the summer as are raspberries (both red and yellow). Apples are available starting mid-August (the sweeter ones) and again in early September (the more tart ones). I am hoping to be able to offer nanking cherries this year and possibly even some other cherries. Next year we hope to get some plums from our trees as well as a pear or two. The year after our apricot trees should be bearing fruit. We have also planted saskatoon, blueberry, currant, and blackberry shrubs. We do our best to offer produce that tastes incredible (though many heirlooms do have odd shapes, their taste is far above the “pretty” looking tomatoes!) We offer subscription produce buckets for a very affordable price. We are not a CSA as we do not have others work in our gardens and we ask you to fill out a form letting us know what you would like (or not like) in your buckets each week. | Algoma Highlands Wild Blueberry Farm and Winery is a 640 acre family farm located 3 km from downtown Wawa. It’s fields are transected by Hwy 17 and uses an old tree nursery to process and ship it’s wild blueberries and associated products. This is a unique geological site, consisting of 100% sand being old Lake Superior beachfront from times gone by, ideal for the encouragement of wild blueberry plants. Scenic High Falls, a major tourist attraction in the Wawa area, can only be accessed via our farm road. Moose, bears, wolves, cranes, eagles and all the other animals of Northern Ontario are common sights on the fields during the summer season. In 2011, we sold both fresh and frozen berries, and in 2013 we entered the value-added market selling jam, barbeque sauce, and syrup. All products are 100% natural, with no artificial colour or preservatives added. Algoma Highlands plans to expand upon these markets and add a small winery for the future as well as honey products that is a pollination by-product.
