Located in the heart of Ladysmith, the Old Town Bakery has been a popular spot to watch the Ladysmith Days and Light Up parades. It is also a short walk from the oceanside Marina and the ever popular Transfer Beach. From 1932 to present, the current building has housed a bakery of some kind – first McKay’s Bakery and later, Alexander’s Bakery. For many years, Alexander’s boasted a doughnut-making machine in the window, which held great fascination for the local children.
Geoff and Kate Cram own and operate Old Town Bakery. Kate started the business with her parents in 1999 moving to its current location in 2002. Geoff joined 3 years later. From the beginning, their intentions were to provide quality, yet affordable, from scratch baking, reminiscent of Grandma’s treats. That said, their secret ingredient has always been love! Through much support and loyalty of their customers, they are able employ over 30 people and are thrilled to invest in the local economy.
