Our grapes at Pioneer Estate Winery grow on a south facing slope near those original homesteads and is the highest elevation vineyard in Eastern Canada at 565 feet above sea level. This unique location offers a combination of longer sun exposure and a prevailing breeze, which is part of what allows our grapes to produce our distinctive cold-climate wines.
Our wines are made from a combination of Frontenac Blanc, Frontenac Gris, Adalmiina and Osceola Muscat grapes –all chosen for their unique ability to survive and thrive in the harsh climate of our region. The grapes are hand harvested and immediately crushed and pressed during the cool fall weather to preserve maximum fruit expression. The wines are fermented slowly in oaked stainless steel at 16-18°C for 2 weeks and then aged for a year prior to bottling.
