| At Thoroughbred we are on a singular mission to deliver truly custom, high performance skis, honed to meet the exacting needs of each individual. Every pair so unique in design and graphics, you will never see another like it. As unique as you are. Our founder, Dave Horsfield, has a long history in the ski industry, starting his career as a ski instructor, rising to a CSIA Level 3 certification. As an Engineer he was distracted for a time building a career with a global engineering consulting company, rising from field engineer to one of the top executives in the firm. However, this couldn’t stop him from hitting the slopes in his spare time. When it was time for a change, it was his family who said “you are so passionate about skiing and your skis, why don’t you start building them?” That was all it took! Driven by the countless times hearing his buddies say “this ski is great, but I wish it was more stable at speed (or turns quicker, floats better…..)”. This is a natural consequence of mass produced skis that are built to simply satisfy their definition of an average skier. So the idea was born, to build a few very special skis made in Canada that are designed meticulously for each person. What followed was intense research into the technology of skis, and the custom ski industry. Dedicated to building products that meet the highest standards of performance and craftsmanship, each pair of skis is meticulously hand-built using locally harvested birch and poplar cores, carbon fiber and environmentally friendly pine based epoxy. Graphics are the digital and acrylic paintings of owner/builder James Fisher and reflect his passion for science fiction, wildlife and our beautiful natural surroundings. | Angie and Evan design and built Kindred together. We embarked on this creative journey to feed our passion for The Ride – not just the act of sliding on snow, but the entire alpine experience. It’s an experience that connects us to our kin: the people with whom we share a joy for powder, park features, and the beauty of mountains. Each board and ski is a complementary brew of art and craftsmanship. Kindred Custom products enhance everything that you already—or ever hope to—love about The Ride. We build Kindred Canadian made skis snowboards and splitboards from start to finish. Custom marquetry topsheets can include an array of FSC certified domestic and exotic wood species. The cores are built using select Vancouver Island douglas fir and cypress. We employ a blend of traditional handiwork interwoven with progressive technologies including a CNC router for enhanced precision at various build stages. To personalize board flex and response we integrate composites like fibreglass, basalt and carbon fibre to match the style of even the most critical rider.
