| Melissa Peter-Paul is a Mi’kmaw woman from Abegweit First Nation, located on Epekwitk. Growing up, Melissa was immersed in cultural teachings and was surrounded by a family of basket makers. She began her artistic expression at a young age, making regalia and beadwork, and is skilled in both traditional and contemporary styles. Melissa’s exposure to other Mi’kmaq artforms led her to quillwork, a traditional skill in which the ancestors of her maternal grandfather excelled. | The shop name “Double Portrait” was inspired by a painting by the Master of the Housebook titled “Pair of Lovers” (ca. 1480) Although I can’t pinpoint the exact moment I knew I wanted to be an artist, I have a strong feeling that my love of art grew gradually out of an early obsession with the Disney movie “Fantasia.” It has everything I could ever want in a movie: flying horses, fairies, dancing ostriches, and dinosaurs. | Front Paper is a Canadian stationery company based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The illustrator and designer behind Front Paper is Elizabeth Roth, a graphic designer and political scientist turned illustrator and letterer. Her work stems from a deep love of stationery and the printed good, typography, children’s books and vintage advertisements. Keeping her company while she works are endless podcasts, audiobooks and the occasional Netflix binge. All of the illustrations and type are hand drawn and painted (with gouache) before they are scanned and prepared digitally for printing. The cards are then printed on an offset press in Saskatoon. | Keishia Treber of KTreber is best known for her Canadian Landscape, and Stylized Wildlife Paintings. Born and raised in the small town of Revelstoke, BC, Keishia has called Kamloops home for the past 12 years after attending University in 2006. Keishia’s work often resembles scenery and animals from both areas. During her art career, Keishia has explored the female figure, creative animals, and landscapes through many different materials and mediums, specifically watercolors, acrylic on canvas and paintings on stained wood. After completing the Fine Arts Diploma Program at the Thompson Rivers University in 2008 Keishia began painting custom commissioned paintings for friends and family. Later in 2009-2012, she explored painting lustful images of the female form, highlighting perhaps a fun and vibrant stage in her early 20’s. As Keishia’s art career developed her practice evolved solely into Canadian Landscapes and Stylized Animal Paintings, featuring a simple yet intricate and feminine design. Keishia continues to create art full time in her home studio in Kamloops, BC, where she loves selling her work at shows and through her online store.
