We are passionate about all alpacas and use both suri alpaca and huacaya alpaca in our signature Felt, from the felt we make a variety of luxury items in St. Catharines, ON that are great for everyday use for people and pets. | In our little shop at the HighTales Alpaca Farm, we have hand-made knitted and crocheted items available, insoles made from our felts, 100% alpaca fibre dryer balls and Canadian machine-made Alpaca socks. Our yarn comes on cones from the mill and we wrap them off into 100 gram skeins or hanks. Of course they are all natural colours, some 100% alpaca, and others blended with merino or bamboo. We make our own olive oil soaps, as well. No scents or colours added, ideal for folks with sensitive skin. | At Northern Watters Knitwear, we use antique Swiss Knitting looms which allow us to produce a woolen products such as insoles made in Canada of exceptional craftsmanship. From start to finish, depending on the detail of the pattern, a sweater can take up to 8 hours to create. We use 2/8 worsted spun British virgin lambs wool. Our product line uses two strands of yarn. Our heavy weight, super warm line uses three ends of yarn. The fully fashioned panels produced on the knitting loom are laid on a steam table. The steam “sets” or pre-shrinks the yarn. The panels are then measured for size. The skill of our knitter on the loom ensures a perfect piece. | We are Doug & Carolyn Lilleyman both from Scarborough originally and have changed careers a few times. With the creation of Laslyn Alpaca we have added another line to our resume. Some of you may know that we got our start in the fibre world quite by chance, we had no intention of becoming alpaca farmers. We owned Cedars Cottage Resort and when the farm beside the resort came up for sale we purchased it to expand the resort. We purchased two alpacas to reside in the barn and entertain our guests, then we purchased four more alpacas.
