Founded in 1997, Boulangerie du Royaume was born from a desire to perpetuate the tradition of good, fresh bread in the region, following the relocation of the last commercial bakery in the area. Eight former employees chose to join forces as a cooperative to offer consumers the chance to reconnect with locally made bread. The eight members each possessed complementary strengths that allowed them to build, one loaf at a time, a solid cooperative.
Boulangerie du Royaume has been located on Alexis-le-Trotteur Street in Jonquière since its inception. Each year, the bakery gains new customers, and in 2009, it was time for an expansion. The floor space more than doubled. The new location is much better suited to serve customers throughout the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region.
Then, in 2018, the last remaining founders employed at the bakery decided it was time to hand over the reins to new Quebec owners. With the aim of ensuring its long-term viability, they chose to sell the bakery to Nutrinor Cooperative and Gilles Couture, a business partner of several years. Boulangerie du Royaume thus continues to bake and deliver delicious bread throughout the region, crafted with the expertise of its founders.
