Lotte of Minttu Fibre Arts is a self-taught fibre artist with a mind for detail and an innate fascination with nature. She attributes her artistic nature to her architect father, while her modern Scandinavian style stems from her Finnish mother. Lotte gains inspiration from spending time playing outside, and is drawn to bold colours and patterns influenced by Scandinavian textiles which have surrounded her her entire life.
Simple and modern is the best way to describe her weaving style. Organic shapes, patterns, and texture are often used in her pieces, along with beautiful pieces of driftwood collected from local Nexen Beach and Savary Island where Lotte’s family has a summer home. Lotte has fond memories reading “Minttu” books with her grandmother, Mummu, in Finland, who also taught her how to weave and crochet. “Minttu” seemed an appropriate name for her craft as a way of honouring her Mummu, and remembering how they spent their time together.
