Most Popular Canadian Products

Canada has given the world a plethora of popular products, both tangible and intangible. Not to mention the amazing inventions that were born here.  Some of the most popular and recognizable Canadian products and contributions include:

  1. Maple Syrup: Canada is the world’s leading producer of maple syrup, with the province of Quebec producing the lion’s share.  According to the popular site Maple From Canada, we actually produce 71% of the world’s pure maple syrup.  It is also produced in other Eastern Provinces and British Columbia.
  2. Ice Wine: Mostly from the Niagara region in the early days, Canadian ice wine from across the country is renowned worldwide.
  3. Poutine: A delightful dish made of fries, cheese curds, and gravy.  Most known in Quebec but now available across the country and internationally.
  4. Tim Hortons Coffee & Doughnuts: Started by a Canadian hockey player and later to become the number one coffee in Canada. Now owned by a Brazilian company,  it is still a staple in many Canadian towns and cities.
  5. Canadian Whisky: Created in many distilleries in most provinces, brands like Crown Royal are recognized and enjoyed around the world.  Many establishments here have earned top honors for their creations.
  6. Canada Goose Jackets: This is a popular high-quality outerwear known for its warmth.  Although many of their products are no longer made in Canada, their down-filled products still are.  They are owned by a private equity group which is mostly American from what I could find..
  7. Lululemon Athletica: Their yoga and athletic wear have garnered a large international following.  Their products are known to be Canadian however are no longer made here at home.
  8. Roots: Known for its leather goods, footwear, and apparel.  This is a popular brand who even supplied Olympic gear for our athletes.
  9. The Canadarm: Used in space missions, it’s a technological marvel that Canada contributed to the world.
  10. Hockey Equipment: Given the country’s love for ice hockey, it’s no surprise that it produces top-tier hockey equipment.
  11. Canadian Beer: Brands like Molson, Labatt, and many craft beers have made their mark internationally.
  12. Ketchup Chips & All Dressed Chips: Although they are made by International companies, they are unique to Canada and loved by many.  However we do have many Potato Chips made in Canada.
  13. Nanaimo Bars & Butter Tarts: Delicious Canadian desserts.  Nananaimo Bars were invented in Nanaimo, BC by three women after WW2.  Also started by women in Barrie, ON the first known recipe for butter tarts was published around or before 1900.  They can be found in many Canadian owned bakeries across the country.
  14. Hudson’s Bay Blanket: Recognizable by its iconic stripes.
  15. Burt’s Bees: Although now internationally recognized, it originated in Canada.
  16. Cirque du Soleil: While not a “product” in the traditional sense, this theatrical performance group is a world-renowned Canadian export.

This list just scratches the surface. Many of the most popular Canadian products have found their way into homes and hearts around the globe.  Some have unfortunately not survived the global acquisitions of companies or the temptation to improve the bottom line.
