Eby Manor Farm was purchased by Jim’s father Howard, in 1959. In the early 60s, Howard switched the herd from Holsteins to Guernseys, to capitalize on the existing market for the unique characteristics of Guernsey milk. The ability to market breed specific milk was discontinued with the advent of the milk marketing board. However, after many years of marketing generic milk, the board initiated a new program allowing farmers to brand and process their own milk, in order to create niche markets. We saw this as an opportunity since we have one of the few remaining Guernsey herds in Ontario. In May of 2012, we began to brand and market the milk from our Guernsey cows.
