Fallentimber Meadery is a member of the cottage winery industry in Alberta. Our doors officially opened to the public in the fall of 2010. Great mead starts with great honey, and honey is something that the Ryan family knows very well. Back in 1969, Blake Ryan started the family business when he purchased the family farm and established his first hives. Kevin Ryan carried on the profession of beekeeping and continues to do so as part of the Fallentimber Meadery. Ryan’s Honey is sold at the Meadery store and select stores in our region. My main interests are history and ethnography. After earning a master’s degree in architecture and working for several years, I went on a journey through the countries of Eurasia. Once, in the mountains of Tian Shan, I joined an archaeological team unearthing the ruins of a city on the Silk Road that was a meeting point of various cultures and religions in the six century A.D. where people traded not only goods but knowledge as well. There was a historian on our team who, every night, told us ancient legends and lore. One of these stories was about mead, the honey based beverage that was venerated by every nation of antiquity. They believed it to be a gift from the Gods. Who were these Gods? Perhaps mead was inherited from vanished civilizations? How could we have let this priceless gift sink into oblivion? Prairie Bee is Saskatchewan’s first craft meadery. Our meads are hand-crafted in small batches with locally produced honey. We use only the best light, sweet honey primarily from clover, alfalfa and wildflowers. Real, all-Canadian fruits are incorporated in to the wines before fermentation, creating enchanting aromas and a variety of delectable flavours. Instead of trying to coax fruits from warmer lands to grow in our Maritime climate we wanted to produce a world class product that was true to the Island. Our ingredients are local, climate friendly and our honey truly is a reflection of time and place. Every year has its differences that makes the mead unique from year to year. We couldn’t find a healthier way to manicure the grass between the rows of fruit than our herd of mowing sheep! At Bee Boyzz Honey the Paseschnikoff family story began simply with the love of bees. The peace and calm they bring to you as you tend them, natures therapy really. Konstantin Sr. first fell in love with them many years ago in Venezuela where he tended approximately 50 hives. When the family immigrated to Canada in the 1960’s the bee romance continued on a hobby basis and was passed down to Kon Jr. as a young boy. He learned then the fascination of tending a hive. Midgrad Meadery is a Nova Scotia’s only Small Farm Winery (non-grape) and has offered 12th Century traditional meade in the Norwegian style since 2006. The Meadery is part of and located at Scotch Lake Farm in Scotch Lake, NS. As of July 1, 2018, the Meadery became the sole proprietorship of Jen Holtom, partner in the farm operations. The farm is known as Scotch Lake Farm or Scotch Lake Apiaries or even Scotch Lake Beekeepers’ Academy as we are all about keeping honey bees. To be a licensed farm meadery (or farm winery) in Nova Scotia means that we must produce the main ingredient in our alcohol beverage … but in fact, we attempt to produce all the ingredients in all our meade and all of our farm products are free of chemicals. We’ve always had passion at Shrugging Doctor Brewing Company. A passion for winemaking, for business, for disrupting the status quo, and a passion for trying and change the world. Shrugging Doctor was founded on these passions. We opened our doors late January 2017, but that’s not even close to where the story started. We wrote the business plan for Shrugging Doctor when we were 18 years old, and faced adversity every step of the way. “What do these damn kids know about running a business?” is another thing we heard a lot. Well you got me there; not much. But that was something Head of Sales, Willows Christopher was determined to learn quickly. Within months we had developed the most efficient Liquor Home Delivery Service in the Country, seen our products on almost every Liquor Mart shelf in Manitoba, and developed a loyal group of customers and fans. Rig Hand Distillery is in the unique position of being the first craft distillery in Niksu- the greater Edmonton area. Our main grain supplier is Schneider Farms, a fourth-generation farm located two miles from the distillery.
